Joy Larkcom and Klaus Laitenberger's Creative Vegetable Gardening
Joy will begin the day with a lecture on 'Creative Vegetable Gardening'.
The talk will focus on the ‘potager' approach to a kitchen garden or plot, whatever its size. It will cover simple, elegant ways of achieving this, from integrating fruit, herbs, and flowers into the fabric of the garden to ideas on imaginative planting. Style, patterns, boundaries, focal points, beds, paths and edges will all be discussed. There will be a comprehensive list of vegetables, herbs, fruit and edible flowers suitable for a potager.
Following this talk, Klaus will give a practical demonstration in the vegetable gardens at Hunting Brook.
In the afternoon, Joy will give a talk entitled 'Travellers' Tales' which gives a light hearted account of Joy's travels and adventures in Europe, Asia and North America, over a 35 year span, which led to the discovery and introduction of salad plants and oriental vegetables. Later travels ignited her passion with the ‘potager' concept - the last chapter being the establishment of a fan shaped potager on a bare, windswept field in West Cork, where Joy and her husband have retired.
