Tour to The Gardens of Cornwall

Update: This tour is now full but send us an email if you would like to go on the waiting list.

Flight from Dublin to Newquay arrives on the 5th May at 10.20am

Friday, 5th May 2017 – Tregrehan and The Lost Gardens of Heligan

On arrival we will be met by our private coach which will then take us to our first garden on this tour, Tregrehan. This garden is often described as Cornwall’s temperate rainforest! We will be met by owner Tom Hudson who will guide us around this unique collection of newly discovered woody plants.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan
This award-winning garden is the scene of the greatest restoration project in Europe.  The Tremayne family developed and tended these magnificent gardens for more than two centuries, before they fell into disrepair at the outbreak of the First World War. Re-discovered in the 1990s, the gardens have been painstakingly restored to their former glory.

Later, our coach will collect us and bring us to our hotels in Truro. Orlaith and I would be delighted if you would join us later for an evening meal on us. This of course is a perfect opportunity to get to meet and chat to your fellow travelers.

Saturday, 6th May 2017 – Tremenheere and Minnick Theatre

The coach will pick us up from Truro and bring us to our first garden of the day. Tremenheere is a newly opened garden set in a beautiful sheltered valley. We will be met by Dr Neil Armstrong who will guide us around this eclectic garden. A collection of contemporary pieces of art that are interwoven into the landscape with large scale exotic and sub-tropical planting.

We will have lunch here before travelling on to Minnick Theatre. Carved into the cliffs, this amphitheater is dramatically planted with succulents and tender plants.

Sunday, 7th May, 2017 – Trelissick and Glendurgan

We will drive a very short distance to our first garden, Trelissick, a glorious spring woodland paradise under the care of the National Trust. Its ornamental woodlands, huge oaks and conifers can be traced back to the turn of the last century when its owner – and renowned plant hunter – Carew Davies Gilbert, laid out the garden to display his discoveries. We will be met by Garden Director, John Lanyon, who will guide us around the fascinating collection of plants set in a scenic peninsula.

After our lunch, we will travel a short distance to our next garden, Glendurgan. Lose yourself in the valleys of this extraordinary garden. Including a 176-year-old cherry laurel maze, Glendurgan is at its best in May when bluebells and other native wild flowers line the valley walks down to the Helford River. Both of these National Trust garden are gardened to very high standard with exceptional collection of new introduction from various plant hunting expeditions.

Monday, 8th May 2017

Our coach will then collect us at 8.30am and deliver us back to Newquay airport for our flight home. Our return flight to Dublin arrives at 12.00pm.
